The Pippen House
202 W Columbus Drive

The Pippen House on
the southwest corner of Highland Avenue and Columbus Drive is the other property
located in this area that was identified as individually significant and added
to the local district in 2000. It is a fine example of early twentieth century
architecture. Although the building first appears in the Hillsborough County
Property Appraiser's records in 1908, City Directory research indicates that the
house was constructed as early as 1903. It features a hip roof, wrap-around
verandah and a turreted Queen Anne style facade typical of the time period.
Charles R. Pippen, his wife Ida, and family lived in the house from the time of
its construction until 1958. Mr. Pippen was involved in the real estate industry
in Tampa for many years and owned C.R. Pippen Dry Goods located at 916 N
Franklin Street.
