William Hunter was born in Illinois in 1857. After studying law in Tennessee, he came to the Tampa Bay area in 1882 and settled in the Dunedin area, where he practiced law for ten years. In 1892 he formed a partnership in Tampa with E. R. Gunby and served as Tampa City Attorney under Mayor Gillett. He also served as Referee of Bankruptcy from 1902 through 1914 and was President of the State and County Bar Associations. He and his wife Dora lived in the home at 212 W Park Avenue and had four children. They built the duplex next door to them at 2207 N Ola and the home at 2205 N Ola Avenue for their children.
