The Gardner House
The Gardner House is significant for its association with the
Gardner
family and its contributions to the development of
Tampa
, particularly in its African-American community. The Gardner House was designed
and built in 1924 by R.B. Gambier for Isaac Gardner, Sr.
The home continues to be owned and occupied by the
Gardner
family with its current owners, Robert Gardner, Sr. and Robert’s wife
Lillian.
Robert and Lillian Gardner were among those honored
at Tampa Preservation Inc.’s 17th Annual Preservation Celebration
May 11th, 2000. The not-for-profit historic preservation group
presented the “Banner Award” to the
Gardners
in recognition of their outstanding preservation of
Tampa
’s rich heritage.
The Historic Preservation Commission has nominated
the Gardner House for listing on the Nation Register of Historic Places.
